Mint julep recipe by Herb Oneacre. Last thing he wrote before he died.
Friday May 6, 1988 Herb Oneacre sat down and wrote out his recipe for mint juleps. For Herb. making mint juleps was a labor of love and a necessity to truly enjoy the Kentucky Derby. That evening Jamie Lemley, Herb's grandson, visited him to assist in making the mint syrup for the following day's event. Late that night a medical emergency had him admitted to the local hospital. Jamie and the family sneaked into the hospital a small julep for the running. His health continued to deteriorate and he died the next Friday. The derby party has become an annual event to honor Herb and his love of racing, juleps, and a good story.
