Documents | Memorial Service Program for Beatrice, Herbert, and Patricia Oct 14, 1995. Phil Oneacre, Jamie Lemley, Bob Lemley, and John Lemley traveled to New Martinsiville to inter the ashes of Beatrice and Herbert. A memorial service was held at Wells Funeral Home for those who still remembered the Oneacres. About a dozen or so local people attended the service. After the service we traveled to Mount Olive Cemetery, place the urns of Beatrice and Herbert in a grave between Beatrice's parents and made a champagne toast to the lives of Beatrice and Herbert. The glasses used for the toast were a set of Italian style wine tumblers that Herbert acquired from Viking Glass in the late 1950 and for which he had a particular attachment.
Mint julep recipe by Herb Oneacre. Last thing he wrote before he died. Friday May 6, 1988 Herb Oneacre sat down and wrote out his recipe for mint juleps. For Herb. making mint juleps was a labor of love and a necessity to truly enjoy the Kentucky Derby. That evening Jamie Lemley, Herb's grandson, visited him to assist in making the mint syrup for the following day's event. Late that night a medical emergency had him admitted to the local hospital. Jamie and the family sneaked into the hospital a small julep for the running. His health continued to deteriorate and he died the next Friday. The derby party has become an annual event to honor Herb and his love of racing, juleps, and a good story.
