Family Outting Left to right: Louis & May Oneacre and Jessie K Gorby (May's father). Ruth Graham - Aug 8, 2010 MHS CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS MyFamily.com forum May's father was Jesse K. Gorby. He was widowed in 1902 and remarried a widow in 1903. I wonder if this pic was made before my great grandfather remarried. If so, it would be 1902 or early 03. Martha (McColloch) Shepherd ('62) - Aug 8, 2010 MHS CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS MyFamily.com forum I love this picture. I don't remember seeing it before. I remember some of the family took a trip and went to California. Ruth or Sam will have to correct me if I am wrong on what I type. They may know more about it than I remember. In this picture it is Uncle Louis and Aunt May, Uncle Louis and my Great Grandfather Jesse K. Gorby are in this picture. Aunt May was a sister to my Grandpa Gorby and she married Louis Oneacre. I look at this picture and marvel at the wheels on this car. I wonder how they made this trip out there and back. If I am not mistaken Grandpa and Grandma Gorby and Aunt Mary Louise also went on this trip. I sure would love to have stories of this trip out and back. It would be very interesting to read what all they experienced. Thanks Phil for sharing these pictures with us. Aunt May and Uncle Louis would be Phil grandparents. Sam McColloch ('49) - Aug 8, 2010 MHS CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS MyFamily.com forum This picture was probably from the late 1920s as Jesse Gorby died in 1932, and he is not a young man in this picture. He doesn't "look" right with those shades on, but that is May's dad. He is the one responsible for the 1000 tree apple orchard out Doolin, and he was a Civil War vet who made it into the service at the end of the war. This is not the car the Oneacres and Gorbys drove to California - see the other picture. The Charles Gorby family also drove to California in the mid 1930s. There were two separate California trips. Both families had their picture made in that redwood tree with the road cut through it. | ||
Louis (far left) and Mae (far right) with Kersey Gorby and wife, Myrta Frum Gorby, in Yosemite National Park. In the thirties Louis retired from the durg store partnership (later he tired of retirement and opened Central Drug Store in New Martinsville) and did some traveling including this trip from WV to Yosemite National Park and Arizona (IIRC) and perhaps Mexico. I have an Indian bowl they brought from the trip and it was made in Mexico. Phil Oneacre Sam McColloch ('49) - Aug 9, 2010 MHS CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS MyFamily.com forum I am still thinking about the car, and seem to remember that Kersey had a DeSoto which was not very common. This looks like the DeSoto or Chrysler Air Stream (I think that was the name) which were made from 1932-1934, thus that would date this photo as early to mid 1930s. That car had rear doors that opened backward, so you sure didn't want to open the rear door when the car was moving. Ruthie LaFon ('60) - Aug 9, 2010 MHS CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS MyFamily.com forum Sam, I sent this picture to Larry Wood. He said that it is a very rare Chrysler Airflow and that it was way ahead of it's time in styling. |

Newspaper Account of a Gorby Reunion Newspaper Account of a Gorby Reunion but the clipping was not dated or listed the publisher. The date dated is 24 Aug with no year designated. A wild guess is it is 1901 because it was found with clippings of Louis and Ida's wedding which occurred in 1902 and the 24th was a Sunday in 1902. Names associated are somewhat of a guess so please let us know if anyone has corrections. |
